Samford & District Progress & Protection Association (SDPPA) representatives visited Samford Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) recently to see first hand how their annual grants benefit the local community.
Thanks to two grants awarded earlier this year, Samford RDA has purchased Misty, a beautiful natured Welsh-cross buckskin mare and two purpose-designed saddles that give riders very close contact with a horse. For riders with a range of disabilities, the saddle maximises the physical benefits provided by the horse’s movement.
Samford RDA also purchased a head-set communication system to allow hearing impaired riders to have direct contact with their coach, plus an equine massage therapy pad for use on horses who spend long periods carrying unbalanced riders. The funding also allows the purchase of a further horse as up to $10,000 was generously earmarked for this purpose.
Misty is one of a dozen RDA horses at the Samford Showgrounds centre and she is available for corporate or private sponsorship to help meet the cost of her care and feeding. If you are interested in sponsoring gorgeous Misty, please go to our website https://www.samfordrda.com.au/donate for more information on horse sponsorship or email rdasamford@gmail.com
